An Advanced BMS Menopause Specialist Doctor with over 15 years of clinical experience — dedicated to giving women the time, expertise and treatment they deserve during one of life's most important transitions.
Dr Nadira Awal founded Pause and Co Healthcare because too many women are told their menopause symptoms are "just part of getting older" — or offered a five-minute appointment when what they need is thoughtful, personalised care.
An Advanced Menopause Specialist accredited by the British Menopause Society (BMS), Dr Awal combines rigorous evidence-based medicine with genuine listening. She trained as a GP and has spent over 15 years supporting women's health, with a particular focus on perimenopause, HRT optimisation, and complex hormone histories.
She has been featured on BBC Woman's Hour and works regularly with employers and community organisations to raise awareness of menopause in the workplace.
Family run
An independent, family-run clinic
Pause and Co Healthcare is a family-run online private menopause clinic serving people going through perimenopause and menopause across the UK. Based in Birmingham City Centre, we offer secure video consultations so you can be seen from the comfort of your own home.
Dr Nadira Awal is an Accredited Advanced Member of the British Menopause Society and a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Warm and friendly
A comprehensive approach to menopause care
Dr Awal believes menopause care means more than a prescription. She considers medical factors alongside nutrition, sleep, stress, movement and mental well-being, and builds a plan that combines hormonal and non-hormonal treatment, complementary therapies and practical lifestyle changes where they help.
Our goal is to create a comfortable environment where women feel heard, cared for, and given the personal attention this stage of life deserves.
Why Pause and Co exists
An experienced GP with a passion for women's health, Nadira specialises in menopause and family planning. Pause and Co Healthcare was founded in 2021 out of her desire to challenge the societal taboos still surrounding sex, sexuality, reproduction — and midlife women's health.
Our vision
To provide accessible, affordable and personalised menopause care while raising awareness and breaking taboos around women's health — collaborating with education, government and community organisations to improve care through innovation and honest, effective resources.
Lived experience
Nadira went through menopause at a younger than average age, and draws on that personal experience to educate and support women in the workplace, in the community and one-to-one in the clinic.
Holistic, informed care
We prioritise holistic care, addressing each woman's unique needs and helping her make informed lifestyle choices that fit her body, her history and her life — not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
Education
A rigorous medical background
Dr Awal graduated from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2009, completed GP training in 2014 and joined the Royal College of General Practitioners.
She also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dermatology, Letters of Competence in Intrauterine Techniques and Subdermal Contraceptive Implant Techniques, and a Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare. Teaching & leadership
A doctor who teaches other doctors
Alongside her clinical practice, Nadira has many years of experience teaching and supervising junior doctors, nurses and colleagues, and consistently receives excellent feedback from her peers.
She has held a range of clinical leadership roles, including Joint Lead in Women's Health, COPD & Asthma Lead, Co-lead in Diabetes Care, Child Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Adult Safeguarding Lead. That breadth of NHS general-practice experience is what she brings to every consultation — comprehensive, joined-up, compassionate care.
Outside the clinic
Hobbies
In her leisure time Nadira follows a wide variety of interests alongside her medical career. Photography is one of them — many of the images you see on the site and across social media are her own.
She is also a keen builder, happily assembling wardrobes and shelves from scratch. Focused and meticulous, she brings the same care to a build as she does to a treatment plan.
Family life
Nadira lives with her husband and two daughters, who are enthusiastic contributors to the family business and always excited about the next big project.
As a busy healthcare professional, she juggles clinical responsibilities with family life — an experience she shares with many of the working parents she treats.

Do I need a GP referral to book a menopause consultation?+
No. You can book a private menopause consultation directly with Pause and Co Healthcare — no referral is needed. We offer secure online video appointments from anywhere in the UK. See how consultations work
What is HRT and how does it help with menopause symptoms?+
HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) replaces the hormones that naturally decline during perimenopause and menopause. Body-identical HRT can relieve hot flushes, night sweats, poor sleep, low mood, brain fog and joint aches, and support bone and heart health when appropriate. Read the HRT guide
Can Dr Awal prescribe HRT during a consultation?+
Yes. Dr Awal is an Advanced BMS-accredited Menopause Specialist. If HRT is clinically appropriate for you, she can prescribe a personalised regime and arrange ongoing reviews to optimise symptom control and safety. View consultation fees
What is the difference between oestrogen and progesterone in HRT?+
Oestrogen is the main hormone that eases menopause symptoms and is used by most women. If you still have a uterus, a progestogen (including body-identical progesterone) is needed alongside oestrogen to protect the womb lining. Dr Awal will explain which type and route suits your body and history. Learn about HRT types in the guide
Are consultations online or in person?+
Most consultations are held online by secure video call, so you can be seen from the comfort of your own home. The clinic is based in Birmingham City Centre and online care is available across the UK. See the consultation process
